The variety of events that are celebrated today and the countless ways in which they are celebrated, means that coordinating special events is no longer a profitable sideline but a profession in its own right. Creating an extraordinary experience for the guest, satisfying the client/host's needs, and maintaining effective communications with individual expert suppliers are the keys to the success of any special event, and this book explains how all these goals can be achieved. It opens with a look at the role of the special events planner, including 115 interviews with some of the most successful practitioners in the USA, Canada and UK. It then examines the various components of a special event, discussing space, decor, lighting, sound, videos, laser lights, pyrotechnics, tents, catering, music, entertainment, and more. The use of each of these elements in the five primary special events markets, the social, retail, meeting/ convention, corporate, and government spheres, is explored, and examples of memorable special events that have incorporated these elements are recounted by the professionals who supply them. The second half of the text describes a wide range of functions, affairs, and events.
